JR Station Booth
Convenient and Private: My Experience Using the JR Station Booth in Shinjuku
While traveling through Tokyo recently, I suddenly had to jump into an urgent Zoom meeting. With little time to spare, I headed to JR Shinjuku Station (South Entrance) and found exactly what I needed — the Station Booth, a private work pod operated by JR East.
These compact booths are super easy to use. If the booth is unoccupied, indicated by a green flashing light, you can walk right up, select your preferred time slot on the screen, pay with Suica or Pasmo, and step inside. It’s incredibly convenient.
The cost? Just 275 yen (about $2) for 15 minutes — a reasonable price for a quiet, private workspace in the middle of a bustling station.
Inside the booth, there’s just enough space to sit comfortably with your laptop. It’s equipped with Wi-Fi, power outlets, and a desk — perfect for video calls or quick tasks on the go. Thanks to this setup, I was able to attend my meeting without a hitch, despite being on the move.
If you're planning to work remotely while traveling around Tokyo, you can even register in advance online and check real-time availability of booths at various JR stations.
About STATION WORK by JR East
STATION WORK is a service provided by JR East that offers shared workspaces centered around train stations. Their STATION BOOTHs are private, soundproof spaces ideal for remote work, and they also partner with hotels and coworking facilities to expand their network.
Whether you’re a business traveler or a digital nomad, having access to a reliable and private space like this can be a real lifesaver. I highly recommend it for anyone needing to hop on a call or get some quick work done while exploring the city.
