Shinagawa Station is one of Tokyo’s major transportation hubs and a stop on the Shinkansen bullet train line.
Right in front of the Takanawa Exit stands the Shinagawa Prince Hotel, which houses an aquarium inside.
In this article, I’ll introduce Maxell Aqua Park Shinagawa, located within the Shinagawa Prince Hotel.

(From the official website)
Admission:

  • Adults: ¥2,500

  • Children (elementary to junior high school students): ¥1,300

  • Infants (4 years and older): ¥800

Just outside the entrance, there’s a merry-go-round featuring sea creatures such as dolphins. It’s quite rare to see a ride like this at an aquarium—don’t you think?

As I continued walking, I came across a sawfish. It was my first time seeing one, and I was amazed at how its nose really looks like a saw. I couldn’t help but wonder how it evolved that way.

You’ll also find penguins and various kinds of jellyfish.
The penguins were adorable, waddling and darting around playfully.

The jellyfish displays were stunning—they glowed like jewels under the lights. There were many fascinating species to observe.

And finally, the highlight: the dolphin show.
What makes the dolphin show at Maxell Aqua Park unique is its use of synchronized water fountains and lighting. The dolphins leaped dynamically through the air—it’s incredible to find such a large performance space right next to a major station in the heart of the city.

I think the dolphins here jump higher than those I’ve seen at other aquariums. What a powerful leap!

The dolphins at Shinagawa also have a mischievous side. They splash the audience with their tails, and I ended up getting much wetter than expected!
If you're worried about getting wet, you can buy a vinyl rain poncho for ¥100 in advance.

The entire experience exceeded my expectations, with many attractions the whole family can enjoy.
My daughter was especially captivated by the dolphins.
With its convenient location right in front of Shinagawa Station, the aquarium is easy to access—perfect for a quick visit.
(It tends to get crowded on weekends, so I recommend going on a weekday if possible.)
