Yatsugatake Area - 2 Family Fun and Forest Adventures

Yatsugatake Area - Part 2: Family Fun and Forest Adventures

In this second part of my Yatsugatake travel notes, I’ll share two more great spots that are perfect for families and nature lovers alike. Whether you're traveling with kids or looking for a peaceful outdoor adventure, Ikenodaira Family Land and Yatsugatake Long Riding offer memorable experiences in the heart of the highlands.

Ikenodaira Family Land

Official Website

Located in the northern part of the Yatsugatake region, Ikenodaira Family Land is a true gem for families. This expansive park is part of the larger Shirakaba Resort and is divided into four main zones:

  • An amusement park with fun rides and games

  • A petting zoo where kids can interact with animals

  • A museum showcasing local culture and history

  • A lush flower and plant garden perfect for a relaxing stroll

It’s hard to cover everything in just one day, but we focused on the amusement park and had a great time playing a round of mini golf and enjoying the attractions.

Surrounded by nature and connected to nearby hotels, this park is ideal for a full-day family outing—or even a short resort stay.

Yatsugatake Long Riding

Official Website

If you're craving something a bit more serene and adventurous, Yatsugatake Long Riding is a must-try. Nestled in the forests of Yatsugatake, this facility offers guided horseback riding tours through the woods.

The experience begins with a short lesson on how to handle your horse, followed by a 45-minute trail ride through a peaceful, tree-lined path. The cost is about 9,400 yen per person (as of 2025), which may feel a bit expensive—but honestly, it’s worth every yen. Even as a first-time rider, I felt relaxed and connected to nature the entire time.

It’s a refreshing and unforgettable way to explore the landscape—perfect for those looking to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Wrapping Up

From amusement parks to horseback trails, Yatsugatake continues to surprise me with its variety of activities for all ages. Whether you’re planning a family vacation or just want to immerse yourself in nature, this region truly has something for everyone.
